The Rolex Oyster Perpetual is one of the most important models when it comes to Rolex; the Oyster Perpetual is therefore the basis of all models, as we know them today. The history of the Oyster Perpetual began before the watch itself came into existence. Rolex released a water and dust-tight case, the Oyster case, in 1926. Later in 1931, Rolex came out with the first automatic (self-winding) Perpetual movement. Combining these two inventions, the Oyster Perpetual is the basis of almost every Rolex watch we know today.
